Raaz TMC-Raju Singh,Pranay M Rijia,Gourav Dasgupta,Sharib-Toshi

I know this is a belated entry, yet I wanted to post this review anyway….

Maahi is a scintillating love ballad-freeflowing and mystique ridden.A good composition it soars and helds forth the listener due to the riveting singing.O Jaana has the thump and ebullience that is unmistakably Pritamesque (hey I coined a new word there!), but has been composed by Raju Singh.KK sings this one with unbridled enthusiasm that infuses much life into the song. The remix is foot tapping.Sonu Nigam croons Soniyo ever so eloquently but the song itself doesn’t reach the heights that are expected of it.The hearfelt remix version is a better alternative as it is more grounded than the throaty Sonu version.Kaisa Yeh Raaz Hai seems to be the title song of the film. It has a haunting allure and flows seamlessly. KK’s subdued vocals are just perfect for a song of this kind. Banda Re seems as if it has been lifted from Kaante or Musafir though that is not the case. Krishna puts his heart and soul into it but the singular tune just doesn’t find resonance.

My Picks-Kaisa Yeh Raaz Hai,Maahi

Luck By Chance-Shankar Ehsaan Loy

Bawre is a neatly done folk track and sounds earthy.O Rahi Re is quintessential SEL and shimmers be it singing, tuning or the thought provoking lyrics.Pyaar Ki Daastan is more mainstream but sounds extremely gorgeous. The orchestration in this one is top notch.Sunidhi croons Yeh Aaj Kya Ho Gaya in her usual energentic manner. The song itself is middling but sounds bubbly and frothy. Now we come to the pick(s) of the album-Yeh Zindagi Bhi is minimal orchestration but the extraordinary tuning and makes a big impact. The ambient sound is fused appropriately. The sucker punch comes through Sapnon Se Bhare Naina. The quasi psychelic track which would otherwise have been a classical track is conceptualised brilliantly and takes an altogether turn-almost inventing a new genre.SEL amalgamate the lyrics into a techno trance and leave the listener spellbound.

A scintillating soundtrack Luck By Chance is near perfect.Javed Akhtar’s lyrics deserve special mention.SEL themselves are in top form.

My Picks-Yeh Zindagi Bhi,Sapnon Se Bhare Naina

Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam Movie Review

Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam is an engaging take on the subject of human relationships.Sidhu(Siddharth) ia a freebird and after completing his MBA he has nothing to do except for flirting with girls whom his mother(Ramya Krishna) teaches as a lecturer.Sidhu’s father(Prakash Raj) is divorced from Ramya since 18 years and Sidhu divides his time between his mother and father.Meanwhile he meets Geeta(Tamanna), who has come from her village for higher studies, through his friends.Slowly the hate between them transforms into love.Sidhu goes to Geeta’s village to claim her hand from her father,Subramanyam(Nazr).Subramanyam is against the marriage and promises to marry them both only if Sidhu is able to unite his divorced parents. That is the story till interval. From then on it proceeds to show how Sidhu brings his parents together and marries Geeta.

The entire movie is sprinkled with iridescent and thought provoking dialogues(Abburi Ravi,is in top form and reminds us of Bommarillu). The cast deliver a knock out performance.Siddharth is redoubtable in his performance. For a change the heroine is given a meaty role and Tamanna essays it exceedingly well. She pitches it high and matches Siddharth’s hyper persona with ease.Prakash Raj is eminently watchable as the workaholic dad who has no time for his family. His tough exterior belies his inner vulnerability.Only he could have played it and he plays it with characteristic¬†panache.Ramya Krishna, the yesteryear heroine,is a pleasant surprise and ¬†dons the role of a mother with ease.Nazr suits the role of heroine’s father to T.Brahmanandam and Venu Madhav provide riproaring slapstick comic scenes. The former takes the cake with his antics as ‘Gachibowli Diwakar’.His characterisation is conceptualised well by the writer.

The film is technically sound.Cinematography captures the mood well. Background Score is efficient.Editing by Sreekar Prasad is apt and suitable. The breezy score by Shankar Ehsaan Loy accentuates the movie and does not intrude into the narrative.

The film needs to be savoured bit by bit as it moves at a leisurely pace. There is no dull moment because of the light treatment given to the film. The director(Kishore Kumar) deserves praise for taking a new theme and executing it well. The film stands for family values and probity and needs to be watched for its sparkling performances and dialogues.Highly Recommended!!!

Aa Dekhen Zara-Pritam,Gourav Dasgupta

The techno laced title track Aa Dekhen Zara(club version) is foot tapping and groovy though the coquettish female voice is irritating. The lounge version of the same track is adequately engaging.Mohabbat Aapse is breezy and blissful-the ambient sound and the arrangements are pretty neat. But the trouble begins when Pritam &¬† Gourav turn natty. The standard dips alarmingly.Gazab and Power are both maha boring with a capital M.The tunes are brazen and the lyrics non existent. It is evident that Pritam sticks to the ‘one hit song per film’ formula. The soundtrack touches rock bottom with these two mindless tracks.Rock the party is marginally better than the two, but that is no compliment. The tune is placid and exudes a ‘heard before feeling’.Aa Dekhen Zara begins with a bang and ends with a whimper.Comparisions with Johnny Gaddar are inevitable but considering the quality of this that is way way above.

My Picks-Aa Dekhen Zara(Club Version),Mohabbat Aapse

Rating-One Cheer!

13B-Shankar Ehsaan Loy

Aasma Odh Kar helmed by Shankar Mahadevan and Chitra works well due to the well nuanced singing. The emphasis specially on the word ‘Aasma Odh Kar’ is delightful.Bade Se Shahar Mein by Karthik is light on the ear and sounds serene.Karthik has a melodious voice which can raise the levels of even a songs with mediocre tunes. Here he is at his melifluous best.Sab Khairiyat Hai sounds bland because it is aided by a tune that resembles a nursery rhyme/christmas carol. The flow of the song is too repetitive for its own good. Not even the spirited vocals save this one from sinking.Except for the catchy hook O Sexy Mama has nothing going for it and sounds stale. The theme track is neat as it is replete with all the music we associate with the thriller genre. It starts pleasantly and peaks into a frenzy.

13B is a good effort by SEL as they bring in much needed melody into the thriller genre.Music in thrillers until now has been loud and tacky and left listeners piqued rather than spooked!!!

My Picks-Aasma Odh Kar

Rating-Two Cheers!!

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi-Critics Flop,Masses’ Hit

I have always been an ardent watcher of Shah Rukh Khan’s movies. So I was excited when RNBDJ was about to release. As usual the friday arrived and I visited all movie review sites to gather what the critics were saying about the movie. Most of them were intent on pointing out the mistakes in the film-Almost all of them couldn’t digest SRK’s dual role. All of them gave on an average gave a 2 star rating to the picture.Taran Adarsh of indiafm even predicted doom for the movie.Reading them even I felt the movie’s premise to be silly. But somewhere inside me I had this urge to see for myself what Adi and SRK had to offer this time around.

To be truthful after all the trashy reviews I went in to the theatre expecting a mediocre product and to be truthful again I was blown away.Everything right from the technical aspects to the acting part was executed to near perfection.Surinder Sahni(SRK) was brilliant while Raj(SRK again) was cringe worthy which he was supposed to be.Taani(Anushka Sharma) makes a stunning debut-For me she is the real star and soul of the film as she pervades throughout the film. Infact never did I feel the flaws of the film. The background score was evocative and the cinematography blissful.

The quaint earthiness or in simpler terms ‘the smell of the soil when rain drops descend on it’ kind of experience make this a memorable movie.

The critics were as usual proven wrong!!!!
